Supporting poultry success across Latin America
Aviagen is dedicated to “Breeding Success Together” with the Latin American poultry community. At the seminar, Aviagen specialists shared their latest insights on flock management to help producers achieve their goals.
On Sept. 25, Santiago Lovera, Aviagen's Technical Services Manager for South America excluding Brazil (SAEB), delivered a talk on essential management practices during the interval between flocks (the period after the removal of a flock and before a new one is introduced). He emphasized that maintaining at least a 15-day gap between flocks allows for proper preparation, such as reducing ammonia and moisture levels in the litter. These steps are crucial for creating a healthy environment that supports good chick development. He also highlighted the need for proper pre-heating of the litter and ensuring adequate lighting and water supply to encourage early feeding, which is key to healthy growth.
The next day, Marcus Briganó, Aviagen Technical Services Manager for Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean (CAME), and SAEB presented on “Ventilation and light programs in broilers: what we know so far.” He discussed best practices for ventilation, explaining how proper air circulation can positively impact bird behavior and performance. His presentation included insights from scientific studies on how different lighting strategies can enhance broiler growth and well-being.
“Our participation in this event allowed us to contribute to important conversations on innovative poultry management practices. We’re committed to supporting the poultry community with knowledge that promotes sustainability and animal welfare,” said Osvaldo Bolinaga, head of Technical Services at Aviagen SAEB.
